Today, Sunday, 27/8/2023, a master’s thesis was discussed in the College of Agriculture at Al-Qadisiyah University for the student (Murtada Jabr Hussein) entitled (Study and evaluation of cases of contamination by heavy elements (cadmium, zinc, lead, nickel) that pollute soils and plants of the highway traffic line Diwaniyah – Baghdad) In the Department of Soil and Water Resources.
The discussion committee consisted of distinguished professors.
1_ Prof. Dr. Raed Shaalan Jarallah / Soil Minerals / College of Agriculture, Al-Qadisiyah University / Chair.
2_ Prof. Dr. Jawad Abdul Kadhim Kamal / Soil and Water Sciences / College of Agriculture, Al-Qadisiyah University / Member.
3_ Prof. Dr. Hashim Hanin Karim / Soil Minerals / College of Agriculture / Maysan University / Member.
4_ a.m. Dr. Alma Abdel-Alah Sakban / Soil Sciences and Water Resources / College of Agriculture, Al-Qadisiyah University / Member and Supervisor.
Where the study aimed to estimate the heavy concentrations (Cd, Pb, Zn, Cu) in the soil of those areas that extend along the highway and for several distances according to their proximity and distance from the main street and on both sides (right and left of the street). Evaluation of the state of pollution of those soils using some international pollution standards for soils, and evaluation of the efficiency and ability of the sapiens plant that grows naturally.
It was concluded from the thesis that the results showed, in general, a decrease in the cadmium element with the increase in the distance on both sides of the road, and the values of the elements were higher in the city of Baghdad than in the rest of the study. ) for the element cadmium.
The thesis recommended conducting preliminary chemical analyzes of soils before using them for agriculture to ensure that they are not contaminated with heavy elements, especially soils close to pollution sources, and study them more extensively to find out the images of the most toxic and influential elements on the environment and soil, and to identify polluted soils and ensure that they are not used for agricultural purposes in the service of the public interest. The message is to lift the violations and apply the law, as well as determine the quality of fuel and fuels.
